U.S. Forces Korea is investigating a so-called “hard landing” of a Tuesday U.S. Marine Corps CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter, according to a release from the Seoul-based command.

The helicopter went down near the Jipo-ri Range, 55 miles northeast of Seoul.

“Initial reports indicate a total 21 personnel were on board including five crew members,” read the statement.

“All 21 personnel were transported to 121 Hospital, Yongsan, Korea. Fifteen have been released from the hospital, and the other six are in stable condition.”

The crew of the CH-53 are part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Okinawa, Japan.

The helicopter was flying in support of the ongoing Foal Eagle exercises conducted between U.S. and Republic of Korea forces.
